Future Fashionista

I got out our bin of hand-me downs to take inventory and see what the kids need this fall... Meg is in shoe heaven! They are a bit big, but she doesn't care!

The first of many more to come....

There has been an unusual chill in the air for August. Sunday afternoon looked like this for the boys....

I'm sure this is the first of many football watching afternoons to come!

And the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down....

This has been a week of summer thunderstorms! Every day so far has delivered at least one heavy downpour complete with thunder and lightening! It really puts a damper on park outings when the swings and slides are filled with puddles, but it is fun to watch from the safety of our garage!!!

The kids liked experimenting with wet chalk and what balls will float and which ones sink. They really enjoyed trying to out-splash each other! I think poor Meg got the short end of that stick! Luckily, Mark doesn't mind being used as a towel!

Learning Letters...

There is a Montessori activity called a movable alphabet. Basically it is multiples of every letter in the alphabet, including upper and lower case letters used in learning the alphabet and spelling. Typically they are made of wood and have sandpaper letters. Isaac is always asking how to spell words, or making up his own words so I thought this would be a great learning tool for him.
Well, I saw on another blog. "I could do that" I thought, so trying to be thrifty, I decided I would just print the letters out on card stock since I didn't have any foam letters. Then I used my square cutter from my scrapbooking supplies and voila! Our very own movable alphabet--- with a couple of minor alterations!

I think he likes it!

Who needs it anyway?

Who needs fancy toys....

...when you have your cousin and Gram's tupperware cabinet to empty?

Who needs a chair...

...when you are allowed to sit on top of the counter at Gram's?

Who needs Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana....

...when Grandpa will serenade you as long as you want!! --- he even lets you slobber all over the microphone!!!

Reading....

I have read to the kids since they were born. Everyday at least one book, sometimes the same book over and over! And as a result they love their books! We frequent the library at least once a week. Isaac know exactly where the NASCAR books are... and we have read them all and just where to find the books on space.

With the weather as lovely as it has been, we have been reading outside, on the blanket taking quick breaks to inspect the little creatures that live in our reading space!

I don't even mind being their pillow!

Sometimes we take a break from reading to check out what is crawling around!

Reading is even more fun with friends!

Farm Fresh!

While in Sidney, my cousin Tara was gracious enough to give me a dozen of eggs from the chickens her and her family raise. I was so excited! I had never had farm fresh eggs!!! As soon as we got home, I made banana bread with my beautiful eggs!

At another farm, this goat was getting a different kind of "fresh" with my skirt!!
